Parrots lovers would like to see these birds in the wild. Macaw Parrots are very smart, large, colorful, loving and affectionate birds, but they do not make good pets. Although they are highly intelligent, at home they can be destructive and noisy. And, they like to chew; it is really their hobby. If not correctly handled, they can even be very aggressive. And especially these are not pets that are suited for children.

The Macaw Parrots are usually difficult to handle at home. Their character changes, as they grow older. Usually there is only one member of the family who the bird loves. The bird treats all the rest of family and friends aggressively. What's more, these parrots are very rare and, thus, are difficult to house and feed properly.

Macaw Parrots - Range in the Wild

Most Macaw Parrots live in the warm, Neotropical regions from Southern Mexico through Central America and down into Central South America. Different species will live in different locales within a country.

Macaw Parrots - Diet

Their varied diet includes fruit, seeds, nectar and nuts, which they open with their strong beaks. Macaws will often fly long distances in the search for ripe fruit and nuts. The Macaw Parrot kept at home should be provided a well-rounded diet. They can be fed such food as cooked pasta, lots of fresh fruit and veggies, the occasional chicken thighbone, some nuts, some seeds, hot peppers, cooked beans. Macaw Parrots truly love fruit, a food item that should be given to them every day. The Macaw Parrots also should be given a cuttlebone and a mineral block.
