Great Green Macaw
The great green macaw is in danger of becoming extinct in certain parts of South America; this bird is carefully guarded in protected aviaries.
These parrots are very popular as pets, but they are not the greatest talkers and can be too noisy. They require much place in the enclosure and cannot stand cold climates. The prices for these birds vary from $500 to $3000 depending on the species.

There are about 30 species of these parrots and there might be even more in remote regions of the Amazon basin. The largest representatives of this genus measure up to 40 inches in body length including the tail.
