Lear Macaw
The lear macaw is quickly becoming extinct; a photo of these birds in aviaries is unique considering their rarity.
Only about 200 of these beautiful birds remain in the wild today. The main threats are: pet trade and hunting for food, depletion of the palm trees for livestock and agriculture, and habitat loss to livestock and agriculture. Breeders try to preserve these birds in captivity.

This species was identified in 1978, until this time is was considered to be a color aberrance of another species. Nowadays, it is extremely endangered. In the wild, these birds can be found in northern Brazil only. They prefer scrublands and isolated rocky cliffs.
